Dia de los Muertes Festival

This Day of the Dead celebration includes Mexican and Mexican–American entertainment, Dia De Los Muertes altars, papel picado (paper cut into elaborate designs), calaveras de azucar (sugar skulls), and all the fun of the holiday. Don’t forget to tour Jose Lozano’s exhibit Open Your Eyes/ Abre Los Ojos exhibit honoring the Mexican state of Michoacan.

The Muckenthaler’s annual Holiday Festival features various activities, including home and gallery tours, performances, and an arts & crafts fair. The family-friendly event also provides free art workshops for kids, a children’s play area, and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

South Wing Interpretative Exhibit

This new exhibit highlights the lives of the padres who lived in the South Wing of Mission San Juan Capistrano during the 18th century. The exhibit focuses on the founding and decline of the Mission, the period of secularization, the transfer of ownership of the Mission to and from the Catholic Church, and the pivotal role Abraham Lincoln played in returning the Mission during the last months of his life.

Duke Kahanamoku - Shrine for the Father of Surfing

Hawaii's Duke Kahanamoku is singularly credited with popularizing surfing world-wide during the 1920s. Springboarding off his 1912 and 1920 Olympic swimming fame, this record-breaking champion brought his 10' redwood plank with him in his many travels and drew crowds to his performances.
