Each year the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) transforms Laguna Beach, the famous seaside community and historic artist colony, into an outdoor painting studio with the West Coast’s most prestigious plein air art event, the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. This event showcases the nation’s top plein air landscape painters who compete for prestigious prizes and participate in a 9-day plein air celebration that includes public paint-outs, painting demonstrations, PleinTalk conversations, and educational events and activities. Culminating with the highly anticipated Collectors Gala where attendees get the first look at the original art created throughout the week and presented for award consideration. The Collectors Gala will be hosted at Tivoli Too, a beautiful venue surrounded by the hills of Laguna Canyon, which perfectly compliment and showcase an outstanding collection of plein air fine art. Friday’s Collectors Gala is followed by a 2-day Art Show with free entrance to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
This annual Painting Invitational celebrates the artistic legacy of Laguna Beach founded by the early California impressionist and plein air painters like William Wendt, Anna Hills, Frank Cuprien and Edgar Payne who were instrumental in opening the first Laguna art gallery.
Proceeds from the sale of artwork help support the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art organization (Tax ID #68-0600606). Please consider supporting LPAPA and its mission to protect and preserve Laguna’s plein air heritage by becoming a patron, sponsor or by making a tax deductible donation. Your support helps us continue presenting world class art exhibitions and supports educational programs likeThe Plein Air Project.
