A powerful look at the aftermath of the 1998 kidnapping, savage beating and murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student. The event is re-examined within the framework of a portrait of Laramie, its citizens and their reactions to the tragedy, and the effect of being in the eye of a media storm. The play draws on hundreds of interviews with Laramie residents conducted by members of the Tectonic Theater Company, members' own journal entries and published news reports.
