Suzi Chauvel will present slides of Gold Rush era "Daguerreotypes" and will discuss her own modern version of this early type of photography, the "first publicly announced photographic process". Developed by Louis Daguerre in the late 1830s, these historic images were exposed directly onto a mirror-polished surface of silver to turn a negative image into a positive image. A sometimes dangerous process, involving silver halide, iodine vapor, bromide and chloride, daguerreotype accounts for the majority of the photos now featured in the Mission's Gold Fever! exhibit. Suzi's will also present her modern version of this process where photographic images of her travels in Europe are exposed onto brushed steel. Suzi's work is currently on display inside the Mission's Soldiers Barracks Gallery and will be available for purchase onsite. Her work has been featured on NBC News, BBC London and Good Morning America. Ample seating and refreshments will be available inside the gallery.
