    It is an 'Amazing Grace' that PSSS performs its first concert in 2009-10 by exploring music with a distinctly English appeal. Conductor Irene Kroesen leads the young but highly talented string musicians that make up this ensemble in a program highlighting music by three British composers with diverse styles of music including Purcell's music from "Abdelazar"; Kerr's Fantasy on Amazing Grace; and Rutter's "Suite for Strings." Purcell wrote a great deal of incidental music for plays and "Abdelazar," lively, tuneful and often elegant, added life and vitality that the plays often lacked. Amazing Grace was originally written by an English slave trader who found salvation after a life-threatening storm, and Rutter is a composer with a strong sense of tradition whose works are always melodic and expressive.
