American Composers Festival: The River
February 1, 2010
Pacific Symphony's 10th American Composers Festival (ACF) explores music by and about those who belonged to "The Greatest Generation" This year's festival, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, delves into the turbulent period of the 1930s and '40s and the music that could not have been composed without the somber impetus of this time of extreme deprivation and the hardships endured during the war, at home and abroad. Each evening of the festival presents a rich variety of symphonic, film and discussion events. This first evening's program prominently features the 1938 film The River.
