The nine-time Grammy Award-winning Emerson String Quartet returns to the Orange County Performing Arts Center October 1 at 8 p.m. in Samueli Theater to lead off the 2010-2011 Concert Series, which is full of not-to-missed music making. For its 15th visit, the Emerson has selected a program that reflects a musical period that was closing out late Romanticism and ushering in brazen and bold musical ideas of the new century. The evening’s concert includes Webern’s Langsamer Satz and Five Movements, Op. 5; Berg’s String Quartet, Op. 3 and Debussy’s Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10. A Preview Talk by musicologist and author Herbert Glass will precede the performance at 7:15 p.m.
