    Second Annual Festival of New Musical Theatre
    Sept. 16 - 19
     

    A weekend of original musical theatre will take place Thursday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 19 at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Staged readings of three original musicals will comprise the second annual Festival of New Musical Theatre, a partnership between the School and entertainment industry professionals of the North Hollywood-based Academy for New Musical Theatre.

    The plays are created by ANMT professional writers, composers, and lyricists. They will be performed, designed and directed by CTSA drama students and faculty.

    The schedule for this year’s Festival of New Musical Theatre is:

    • Powder Puff Pilots: 14 brave women (including Amelia Earhart) in 1929, air racing across the United States in the first women's air derby. Book by Marian Partee; lyrics by Noelle Donfeld; music by Cindy O'Connor . Myrona DeLaney, director, and Dennis Castellano, musical director. Thursday, Sept. 16, 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, 7:30 p.m./ Winifred Smith Hall
    • Black and White Christmas: Comedic holiday adventure where celebrity ghosts play cupid for a quarreling pair of neighbors. Book and lyrics by Chana Wise; music by Carl Johnson. Don Hill, director, and Daniel Gary Busby, musical director. Saturday, Sept. 18, 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, 4:00 p.m. / Winifred Smith Hall
    • e-$cape: This revised script and music of work presented at last year's Festival is a gripping rock musical about bloodthirsty virtual world gamers. Book and lyrics by Scott Guy; music by Clifford J. Tasner. Eli Simon, director, and Daniel Gary Busby, musical director. Friday, Sept. 17, 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 18, 3:00 p.m. / Winifred Smith Hall
    • From Foster Care to Fabulous: The Pat Burns' Show: A humorous look at Pat Burns' personal tale about aging-out of the foster care system. Written and performed by Patrick Burns; Daniel Gary Busby, musical director. Friday, Sept. 17, 11:00 p.m. / Winifred Smith Hall

    Ticket may be purchased in advance for $10 for one show; $15 for two shows; $20 for all three plus FREE ADMISSION to From Foster Care to Fabulous, and are available through the Claire Trevor School of the Arts Box Office, (949) 824-2787. Seating is limited.

    Winifred Smith Hall is located on the campus of UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts, near Mesa Road and University Drive.
