Stories Behind The Music - Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble
May 15, 2011
PSYWE explores the stories behind music with an evening of program music. First, Stamp’s “Gavorkna Fanfare,” is one of the first fanfares composed for a full wind ensemble. Next, Williams composes another famous score for Spielberg’s film “1941,” and Martinu writes a “Memorial to Lidice,” a small village north of Prague destroyed by Germany in 1942. The concert concludes with Berg’s “My Mother’s Faith” and a new work commissioned by Paul Dooley, winner of the Symphony’s composer competition.
