Family Day at the Beall
April 16, 2011
Children and families of all ages are invited to enjoy free, hands-on art and science activities at the Beall Center Family Day on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public, and because UC Irvine is having a campus wide celebration on April 16, parking is free.
The event offers a “kid-friendly” introduction to new media art relating to the Beall Center’s current exhibit, “Inflatable Bodies.” The Beall Center Family Day will include interesting art projects, and amazing hands-on demonstration by local high-tech companies in manufacturing, engineering, and design. The Optics Institute of Southern California will present their “Artricks-Optricks” program, which teaches principles of light, vision, and other optical phenomena in a fun and engaging way. Additional guests include UC Irvine’s MESA (Math, Engineering, Science, Achievement) Program from the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, and Irvine’s Mathobotix, an organization who uses the motivational effects of robotics to excite generations of children to study science and technology.
The Beall Center for Art + Technology is an experimental media art center, and is located at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, UCI campus, Building 712 Arts Plaza. (Map: www.uci.edu/campusmap). For information about the Beall Center, go to www.beallcenter.uci.edu, or call (949)824-6206.
