    The Emerson String Quartet returns to open the 2011 – 2012 Concert Series in Samueli Theater, which has virtually become its Southern California artistic home. The Emerson has an unparalleled list of accomplishments over three decades, including more than 30 acclaimed recordings, nine Grammy Awards (including two for Best Classical Album, an unprecedented honor for a chamber music group), three Gramophone Awards, the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and cycles of the complete Beethoven, Bartók, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich string quartets.
