Performance and Workshop: Sea Shanties and Americana: Celebrating East Coast Traditions
September 25 - August 17, 2011
Award-winning composer and performer John Zeretzke returns to the Bowers presenting an entertaining musical afternoon held in conjunction with Scrimshaw: The Art and Craft of the American Whaler exhibition. Program will begin in a workshop setting whereby participants will make their own traditional Appalachian 'cheater' spoons. Everyone will learn to play old-time rhythms and patterns, which will later be used in playing along with musicians on stage in the Bowers auditorium for a colorful performance and sing-along of old sea shanties, a tradition of songs of the seas sung during the age of sail. Great fun in music and song for all ages! For additional information you may call 714-567-3677.
In conjunction with this fun-filled afternoon, Tangata restaurant will be offering specialty lunch items such as hot dogs and chicken tenders along with their award winning menu.
