My Dead Air and 360 Degrees of Black
November 12 - December 23, 2011
Brett Rubbico Gallery is very proud and excited to announce and host an album release party for Dan Ballard's new self-titled album "My Dead Air" , along with an opening reception and exhibition of new paintings by Brett Rubbico named 360? of BLACK. Music and paintings which are specifically influenced by "My Dead Air" for the album cover are available.
The music carries distant vocal arrangements and instrumental echoes that return full circle, beautiful melodies which retreat, come forward, and remain still. Consistently soothing rhythmic harmonies usher in contemplative and meditative trance-like states providing a platform for a peaceful, calm, and restful state of mind. Overall, the well written lyrics on this album are about alchemy or change, that is telling a chapter journey story of sort regarding decisions, actions, regret, hope, forgiveness, change, and ultimately remembering that restoration process.
The (15) minimalist paintings are monochromatically black with a heavily textured impasto medium. Black is a color that possesses all colors within itself and totally absorbs light. Black's symbolic diversity is vast culturally and socially throughout the world representing rebellion, authority, nobility, achievement, religion, superstition, celebration, formality, elegance, drama, and mourning. These paintings are effected by various light sources including shifting atmospheric ambient light conditions which enhance the full visual aesthetic range of black. The concentration is on abstraction and movement through the exploration of aesthetic concepts such as the expansion and contraction of space achieved by successfully making black recede, come forward, or remain still. Linear configurations are well introduced and arranged which change the dynamics of space. Included are influences of sculpture, architecture, and landscape.
Album Release Party & Opening Reception: This Saturday, 11/12/11 from 7:00 - 11:00 P.M.
