The Iluminación project celebrates the opening of the first writing center with its second annual Celebration Reception and Dinner featuring musical guest the Frank Cano Latin Jazz Band and keynote speaker and author Michele Serros. A survey by the Pew Hispanic Center suggests the reasons only 24 percent of Hispanic young people ages 18 to 24 are enrolled in college or graduate school is because of language barriers, parents not playing an active role in encouraging education and not knowing about financial avenues available for a college education. Colleges also need to actively encourage and recruit students and explain and offer financial help to these talented students.
