Conversation With… Sandra de la Loza

The Conversation With… series brings artists to Laguna Art Museum to discuss their practice in a casual conversation with guests. The next artist in the series is Sandra de la Loza. Past guests in the series, which launched in 2011, have included Amy Caterina, The Legacy Project, Deborah Aschheim, Jeff Gillette, Ed Gomez, Mike Tauber, Allison Schulnik, and Sandow Birk. The evening will begin with a brief presentation by de la Loza about her process and work, followed by the rare opportunity for museum visitors to engage with the artist in conversation.
    .
Sandra de la Loza completed her MFA at California State University, Long Beach in 2004. Since then her work has been widely exhibited, most notably in Phantom Sightings: Art after the Chicano Movement at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2008. Her inter-disciplinary work explores the intersections of personal histories an the construction of collective memory. De la Loza confronts issues of accessibility by introducing new ways of experiencing and viewing art outside the gallery space, often utilizing public locations within the city of Los Angeles. Her work challenges the existing social structures in Los Angeles by critiquing how historical hierarchies are established within institutions.
    .
Following the discussion, enjoy a mixer featuring complimentary beverages and the opportunity to meet the artist. Additionally, you are encouraged to view the museum’s current exhibitions as well as participate in the Laguna Beach First Thursday Art Walk which takes place at area galleries from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
