AIDF Dance on Film: “The Red Shoes"
The two-time Academy Award winning beloved classic, “The Red Shoes,” returns to the big screen on Friday, August 10, for one night only. Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Red Shoes,” the movie tells a story of a young ballet dancer torn between the man she loves and her desire to be a ballerina. The British film has been digitally restored and remastered to impeccable quality by Martin Scorsese since its 1948 debut. It features Leonide Massine, Ludmilla Tcherina, and Robert Helpmann, as well as Oscar winning original scores composed by Brian Easdale. Dance on Film will also include commentary by film archivist and historian Larry Billman. Billman’s noted feats include writing, directing, and producing hundreds of live shows for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Tokyo DisneySea. In addition to serving as an associate professor at Cal State Long Beach and the University of Southern California, he is also the founder of the Academy of Dance on Film, a nonprofit foundation committed to preserving the art of film, dance and choreography. The film screening begins at 7:00p.m. at the Folino Theatre, located in the Marion Knott Studios at Chapman University. It is open to the general public at no charge. If attending, please R.S.V.P. online at www.aidancefest.com or by calling (714) 490-6150.
