McCoy Tyner and Joe Lovano
December 13 - December 14, 2013
Tyner and Lovano return to the Center’s Jazz Series as a duo. Tyner's blues-based piano style, replete with sophisticated chords and an explosively percussive left hand, has developed one of the most identifiable sounds in improvised music. He has released nearly 80 albums under his name, earned four Grammys and was named Jazz Master from the National Endowment for the Arts in 2002. Lovano is a Grammy-winning post-bop jazz saxophonist, alto clarinetist, flautist and drummer who studied with Dr. Lonnie Smith. He also leads his Us Five quintet with Esperanza Spalding.
