California State University, Fullerton and the Nicholas and Lee Begovich gallery are proud to present Ruminate, an exhibition of Neo-minimalism. This interdisciplinary, global exhibit is the examination of four living Neo-Minimalist artists: Hadi Tabatabai, Anna Bogatin, Gregory Hayes and Joseph Cohen, known for their meticulous and innovative use of materials. Artworks have been selected for their quiet, controlled energy. Ruminate is significant to art and non-art communities, as it expands upon and contextualizes within the visual sphere current neurological research which indicates that the proliferation of the internet in our daily lives has produced a culture that values perfunctory thought and self-adulation. This exhibit demonstrates that through the abandonment of the superfluous and with heightened focus on materiality, craftsmanship, and process, Neo-Minimalist art can provide an alternative to our culture of superficiality by encouraging viewers to look inward and think deeply. It is hoped that Ruminate will raise awareness and start a discussion about the consequences of our digital life, while also highlighting the exquisite practices of some of the finest artists from the contemporary Neo-Minimalist movement.
Ruminate is the title of a 250-page full-color book published on the occasion of this exhibition. Included are essays by Laura Black, Jamie Brooks, Peter Frank and California State University, Fullerton Begovich Gallery Director Mike McGee authored the forward.
