      I have been very influenced by Brian Greene's book "The Elegant Universe" in this last series of my art abstractions, 2007 and 2008 at the Winnow Gallery. As he says in his book, the String Theory unites physicists, musicians and artists in a common interest in some of the basis of thought about the Universe both on the cosmic and nana scales. I have found that the abstract line, or string, is alive everywhere in the world around me. In my exhibit at the NB Library in 2002 I was influenced by Garcia Marques and his Magical Realism. The magic of the moment enthralled me but the Universal String is even grander. Thanks, Marilyn Ellis Collapse

      The Newport Beach Public Library is fortunate to have the opportunity to display a collection of Ralph Velasco’s stunning photography. His imaginative use of color and composition, light and reflection are well represented in this show. Ralph is a world traveler, and he brings us his highly perceptive views of the exotic as well as the more familiar landscapes, buildings and artifacts that have caught his eye. This display is beautifully framed and presented, and it is well worth a special trip to the library. I found the photos printed on canvas to be particularly compelling. Ralph is also an excellent teacher. I have attended his Travel Photography series, and I learned a lot about catching that extraordinary moment, that unique perspective. He is an engaging instructor, has a good sense of humor, and is highly knowledgeable about his craft. Go see this show! Collapse
