In Love With Night
Guggenheim Gallery
Presented by Chapman University College of Performing Arts
at Guggenheim Gallery
September 9-October 9, 2009
In Love With Night considers people's ambivalence about darkness, both literal and figurative. As children, people dared each other, as adults they look over their shoulders then laugh at themselves, as moviegoers and novel readers they can't get enough of horror. It seems that people tend to run toward their fears in order to run away. This is why Stephen King has sold nearly 350 million books. The dark side, however, also includes the anguish of abandonment, the pain of hopelessness.
