Meraquas of Irvine

The Meraquas of Irvine is a synchronized swim team founded in 1987 and currently has over 20 swimmers between the ages of 8 and 18 drawn from Orange County. Synchronized swimmers perform choreographed routines that combine music and dance movements where water is the stage.

      Always one of the most popular events at summer Olympics, Synchronized Swimming combines athleticism, grace, strength and beauty. You will be amazed watching these young women perform to a variety of musical selections that appeal to all ages, from kids to seniors (many of whom remember watching the great Esther Williams!) The girls spend hours practicing every week, while maintaining excellent grade-point averages and participating in other school and community activities. Come and support their efforts - spend a fun evening with family or friends at this FREE event. There will be a raffle, snack bar, and silent auction, with proceeds funding this non-profit team's expenses, such as travel to regional and national competitions. Collapse

      I have attended this terrific event for the past couple years. These young ladies make it look so easy and fun! They have teams and routines for girls starting from age 7 to the amazing 17 and18 year olds.... You can see just how far all their hard work can take them. The music and choreography is incredible! A MUST SEE!!!! The coach takes the girls all the way to National Competition level.... And the Meraquas are the only Synchronzed Swim Team in all of Orange County. Collapse

      This is an annual event in Irvine that we never miss. Some of the swimmers are national standard. You can see how the skill and endurance develop at the different ages. These girls are tough! They have to be as it is one of the most grueling sports for women. The routines require very careful timing and you can appreciate how difficult it is when you must never touch the bottom of the pool! If you have a young daughter this is a must for you. A wonderful character building sport which develops many skills and gives girls the athleticism and grace to take them through their future lives. Collapse
