The Elasticity of the Almost & New Works

Presented by Backhausdance at Unknown

Ferociously moving among a shifting sea of red balls, The Elasticity of the Almost creates worlds of athletic, fluid, contemporary movement artfully crafted and infused with a sense of humor and theatricality. This piece and two world premieres highlight an evening of powerful dance by Orange County’s own Jennifer Backhaus and her company.

ABOUT THE WORKS
Beyond the Noise (World Premiere)
Choreography by Walter Matteini | Pisa, Italy
Renown Italian choreographer and Artistic Director of ImPerfect Dancers Company, Walter Matteini’s first repertory piece for Backhausdance is a deeply human and accessible, emotional and athletic creation for the full company. The choreographic language is intensely physical and hinges on the quest to explore the human soul. Rich in emotional depth condensed into movement, Beyond the Noise asks the dancers to shed their armor of technique and show others how they really feel with the hope that they will be accepted for who and how they are.

The Empty Room (U.S. Premiere)
Choreography by Ido Tadmor | Tel Aviv, Israel
A dance-theater piece created by celebrated Israeli dancer and choreographer Ido Tadmor, The Empty Room is a dramatic comedy about the evolution of a relationship over a lifetime – from its beginning to its end, and everything in between. Depicting the joys and the struggles, they deal with life and its difficulties, expressing love and fear through their own language and gestures. Theatrical, humorous and raw, this duet is an extremely physical blend of innovative partnering and soul-wrenching contemporary movement.

The Elasticity of the Almost (2013)
Choreography by Jennifer Backhaus
Conceptually driven by the juxtaposition of structure and chaos, Backhausdance’s The Elasticity of the Almost explores our ability to negotiate a constantly changing environment. A piece that follows eight dancers ferociously moving among a shifting sea of red balls, it draws the audience into the worlds they create through athletic, fluid, contemporary movement artfully crafted and infused with a sense of humor and theatricality.
