Banners at Downtown Anaheim Community Center

    Murals/Trump L'Oiel

The Downtown Community Center's gymnasium is home to 6 unique art banners featuring children and seniors who use both of the Downtown facilities. By distributing disposable cameras to the facilities' users and requesting that they become photographers for a few days, public artist Richard Turner creatively wove members of the public into his project design converting the users into art subjects. Selected photos featured on the banners demonstrate the emotions and attributes of some of the users - athleticism, concentration, academicism, and good old-fashioned fun. By combining the pictures with powerful text on some of the banners - the words Enlightenment, Empowerment, and Involvement are emblazoned across three of the banners.
