We live at a remarkable moment in time. The 21st century promises to be the greatest age of exploration and discovery in human history. There is still so much to explore on our planet and beyond, as well as within ourselves. Exploration is about discovering new places, understandings, and species, but it is about so much more. Sometimes it means going to old places and seeing them with new eyes and revealing hidden truths.
Sometimes it involves looking back, understanding the past and reaching from the darkness into the light. One thing is certain: despite the impressive extent of our accumulated knowledge, we have barely scratched the surface of our understanding of our world.
The Future of Exploration will be available for purchase in the Bowers Museum Gallery Store and a book signing will follow the lecture.
This program is made possible through a generous bequest by Lynda Thomas (1950-2021).
