The John Wayne Grit Series 25k & 5k, typically held in Newport Coast’s Crystal Cove State Park, is going virtual for 2020. Fortunately, its two main objectives – to fight cancer and give every participant an amazing experience – stands true!
Rather than a one-day event, the race will now take place over the course of a weekend – starting Saturday, November 14 through Sunday, November 15, 2020. Participants can begin the race at any time from when you register up until the scheduled race weekend. Whether a familiar neighborhood route, a challenging new course you’ve had your eye on, or Newport Coast’s single-track trails – participants will have the freedom to race at a location of their choice. (Crystal Cove State Park is open, however there will be no organized race officials on site).
How to Register
To take part in the JWGS 25k & 5k and support the fight against cancer, simply register online at https://johnwayne.org/jwgs/newport-coast/ and start fundraising today. The registration cost to run or walk the 25k is $105 per person, and for the 5k is $55 per person. Your registration and fundraising efforts make it possible for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation to fund novel and innovative programs that improve cancer patients’ outcomes and save lives through research, education, awareness and support.
How to Fundraise
Participants can fundraise by forming a ‘Corporate’ or ‘Friends + Family’ team. Choose to promote team building at your company, rally your closest pals, or run or walk as a group in honor or memory of a loved one who has been affected by cancer. Several fundraising rewards and special team awards – including retail and apparel items, free future race entries, hotel accommodations, custom race shirts, and more – are available.
How to Run Virtually
Participants will run or walk and are encouraged to track their distance using a run tracking app. To show you went the distance and receive your official JWGS Patagonia participant t-shirt and finisher mug by mail, please email a screenshot or photo of your completed route to Greg Graber, Director of Fundraising, at greg@johnwayne.org. Even better, all participants will automatically receive a 20% off voucher for next year’s 2021 race registration.
Like John Wayne said, “A goal, a love, and a dream give you total control over your body and your life,” and we can’t think of a better way to describe this event – life-changing for both yourself and for those fighting cancer.
