Fashion Design and Creating

Have an eye for style? This Creative Ventures series will dive into the world of fashion where students learn how to hand sew, create fashion illustrations and jewelry design. 

Due to preparation of materials, no refunds or withdrawals will be accommodated. Registration required three days prior to start of each class.

Dates and Topics:

Wednesday, April 6 – Hand Sewn Wallet

Kids love to make it themselves!  Learn the art of hand sewing from needle preparation and knot tying to simple running stitch.  Afterwards, students will create a small felt wallet with embellishment to show off their new skills. Register by April 3, 3pm.

Wednesday, April 13 – Design and Draping

To create, one must design. Learn the art of fashion illustration, starting with flat line drawings of every day clothing to design details like stitching lines and zippers. Techniques of croquis added to your own creative design will be taught to show movement and realism. Then watch the sketches come to life as you use a 1/2 scale dress form and mediums of ‘fabric’ to display your talent. Register by April 10, 3pm.

Wednesday, April 20 – Hand Sewn Binder Cover

Sew and show off a new talent!  Learn the art of hand sewing from needle preparation and knot tying to simple running stitch.  Students will take this new skill and apply it to sewing a felt binder cover that can be used for school. Register by April 17, 3pm.

Wednesday, April 27 – Jewelry Design

Create beautiful jewelry with an introduction to basic techniques and design.  Tool review, color selection, and bead design will guide students to complete a corded bead bracelet.  In addition, wire wrapping will be taught to craft a fun and sophisticated necklace to reflect one’s style. Register by April 24, 3pm.
