Meta Housing Corporation and the City of Westminster are issuing a call for artist proposals for a set of two murals to be located on the corner of Locust and Westminster at 7122 Westminster Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Westminster Crossing is the proposed new construction by Meta Housing Corporation (Meta) of 65-units of affordable housing within the City of Westminster.  The project aims to create a more vibrant, sustainable, and equitable community within the City’s envisioned “Downtown” activity center. The project will bring vitality to an area which is currently void of pedestrians, expanding the neighborhood to connect to existing and future redevelopment of Westminster Boulevard.7The purpose of the murals is to provide a piece of public art of interest to residents and visitors to this major urban corridor that engages, inspires and showcases the diverse community of Westminster.

Artists who specialize in a social practice are encouraged to apply. The City seeks a framework of community engagement in developing the two murals, with the underlying goal of conveying community cohesion. The goal of the project is to reflect a common vision and a sense of belonging for all community members where the diversity of people’s different backgrounds and circumstances are appreciated and positively valued. Community meetings and a panel review process will determine the final selection of the completed artwo

SPECIFICATIONS: The two large-scale murals, approximately 14’ x 10’ each will frame the main entrance of the apartment building (see rendering). The exterior wall will mostly be unpainted stucco.

STIPEND:  Artist will receive a $20,000 project stipend. Payments: 20% of the stipend will be paid within two weeks of a signed letter of agreement, 30% paid upon approval of final design, and 50% of the stipend will be paid upon completion of the murals. There is no application fee.
