Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters

The Festival of Arts, a non-profit organization, is a local leader that has supported the growth and development of the community and the arts in Laguna Beach. Every summer for nearly 90 years, the Festival of Arts has produced two world-renowned events: The Festival of Arts Fine Art Show and the Pageant of the Masters. Together both shows attract more than 250,000 visitors.

Description The General Accountant position is a full-time, year-round, and hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities: performs general accounting duties; coordinates execution of the Festival’s Scholarship Program; coordinates the POS system; and provides system programing and training for FOA sales staff.

Processes accounts receivable, cash receipts, journal entries, prepares monthly reports for managers and board members, prepares budget worksheets for annual budget, assists with audit preparation, acts as coordinator for the scholarship program, and prepares bank reconciliations.

Seasonal gift shop responsibilities include entering inventory, reconciliation of daily cash receipts, inventory reconciliation, and preparation of sales tax reports. Acts as coordinator and trainer for (POS) Point of Sale systems.

Hours: Position is Monday through Friday but may require occasional evenings and overtime, such as additional hours in the summer, during budget preparation, at year-end, depending on the needs of the business.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, 3 to 5-years’ experience in all phases of accounting; general math skills and data entry management; proven knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, accounts payable and accounts receivables, fund accounting, preparation of financial statements, accounting and payroll reporting systems.

Requires intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word. Knowledge of Sage 100 and ADP payroll helpful.

Requires attention to detail, ability to prioritize and troubleshoot issues, effective organizational skills, analytical and problem solving skills, time management skills, stress management skills, and effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact with all levels of staff and management with excellent work ethic and a sense of humor.

Physical Demands

The duties of this position require the ability to sit or stand at workstation for long periods, ability to walk up and down stairs, demonstrate manual dexterity while using hands to finger, handle or feel, including heavy use of keyboard. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary and excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 403(b) with match, 19 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick time. The pay range for this position is $27.00 to $30.00 DOE.
