A Story Written in Stone: Harbor Geology Hike

Participants will be guided by an instructor on a tour that highlights the geological principles and ideas reflecting the natural history of Dana Point Harbor. The group will examine the rock layers and geologic structures that surround Ocean Institute and form the harbor to uncover the geologic story of how the harbor was shaped over 15 million years into what it looks like today. After participants will observe sediment samples from around the world under microscopes and discuss sediment transportation in the ocean.
