Abstract Painting Class

This weekly class is led by artist and instructor Jim Ellsberry. A painter for over 40 years, Jim uses principles of both traditional and non-traditional art to help students build confidence, paint with greater freedom, and strengthen their individual approach to art making.
For the experienced painter, this class will stress personal artistic development through tools, techniques, critical thinking and visual problem solving. Students will work on new as well as in-progress paintings, and the instructor will be available for collaborative input.
For those newer to painting, fundamental principles common to all art are stressed: composition, shape, color, value, depth perspective on a 2D surface. Furthermore, students will expand their paint-handling abilities plus strengthen their understanding of modern tools and materials used in abstract painting.
NOTE: this is not a beginner’s class. It is expected that students will have some experience, be familiar with principles of color, and be comfortable with mixing of colors.
