By Degrees: Art and our Changing Ecology Exhibition Opening Reception

Huntington Beach Art Center members are invited to preview the exhibition from 5:30 – 6:30pm. The free public reception starts at 6:30pm.

As global warming becomes increasingly evident in our daily lives, artists around the world and in our communities are reflecting, creating and examining the climate crisis in response. By Degrees brings awareness to the severity and scale of our changing ecology as seen through the artist’s eye.

More than 120 artists submitted new work for consideration. Selected works will be displayed in the 3000 square foot galleries of the Huntington Beach Art Center located in downtown Huntington Beach, California and online in virtual galleries.

Jurists

Luciana Abait was born in Argentina and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Her multimedia works deal with climate change and environmental fragility, and their impacts on immigration in particular. Abait’s artworks have been shown widely in the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia in solo shows in galleries, museums, and international art fairs.

Lawrence Gipe is a painter, independent curator and Associate Professor of 2-D Studies at the University of Arizona. Gipe has had over 70 solo exhibitions in galleries and museums in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Beijing. His latest work engages issues like surveillance, climate change, and the Anthropocene.
