The Americus Brass Band, under the direction of Richard Birkemeier, performs its faithful recreation of America’s best brass band music from the past, on the authentic instruments of the times. Known for their expert musicianship and mastery of the antique brass instruments, the band members tour nationally, performing in concert halls, festivals, and special events. The band’s film/TV credits includes on-screen appearances and/or soundtrack recordings for Disney’s Hidalgo, the Oscar-winning movie Glory, Gettysburg, The North and South, The Wild West, and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. This season, the Americus Brass Band expands its concert repertoire, from the Civil War and American Cowboy West music to the more recent music performed by the American military bands of the last century.
