Celluloid Classics 2 - before & beyond Bollywood

Celluloid Classics will feature a repertoire of songs well before Bollywood became a household name and go beyond just rhythm based songs performed by Bollywood dancers. The range covers the contemporary to the classical genre of film songs performed by dancers trained in the classical dance forms. For movie, classical music or dance aficionados, this is an exciting blend that is sure to educate and entertain.

Ramya Harishankar has been recognized by several organizations for her contribution to the traditional arts and youth including the prestigious Helene Modjeska Cultural Legacy award (2007) by the county arts agency, Arts OC and ‘Kala Seva Bharathi’ (2012) by Bharata Kalachar, India and is a 2 time NEA Choreographic Fellow (1994-98). The Arpana Dance Company has had the honor of performing in the US, Japan, Europe and India and was named a LA Milestone Dance Company (2007) by the Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles and also the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, the Fund for Folk Culture and the Alliance for California Traditional Arts.
