Distinguished Lecture: Casting and Working Metal in Ancient China

Dr. Anthony Barbieri-Low, Asst. Prof. of Early Chinese History, UCSB, discusses the methods used to cast, work, and finish bronze, iron, and gold objects in Ancient China. He will demonstrate how metalworkers in central China and at Sanxingdui cast complex vessels, masks, or statutes, based on an examination of casting molds and traces left on the objects themselves.
