Elizabeth Turk Event

Elizabeth Turk presents a Tipping Point event at the Catalina Island Museum on Saturday, July 13th. The performances and installation explore meaning in the face of overwhelming change and potential extinctions. Turk initiated the concepts in her Fall 2018 exhibition, ThinkLab LIVE .002, at the Frank Doyle Arts Pavilion at OCC. This next step in the project’s evolution at the Catalina Island Museum, curated by Julie Perlin Lee, represents a connection of dots between Orange and Los Angeles Counties, and Turk’s initiative to create large-scale public events for raising awareness about the environment.

An adventurous evening in the arts which includes dance by The Assembly Dance Co., interactive performance created by participants, inspired by the sounds of world-renowned Composer Michael Mortilla
and Violinist Nicole Garcia. This event starts with an Introduction by Museum Director Julie Perlin Lee. Artist Elizabeth Turk delivers an overview on “Tipping Point: Are We Creating a Silence?” As a participant you are asked to wear white clothing and will be an essential part of the performance.

Tipping Point comprises 3 elements:
1) Installation: Migration Patterns
2) Sculpture: Echoes of Extinction
3) Performance: Are We Creating a Silence?

All participants will be guided through the process of creating a “Light Canopy,” where you will write messages in the sky with a light wand naming “that which you treasure.” Light drawings will be captured on long exposed film and video. Imagery of the entire evening will be revealed at a later date.
