Guo Pei: Art of Couture - Opening Lecture + Live Music

Guo Pei: A Couturier’s Journey with Carmela Spinelli of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Reserve your seat at Bowers Museum for the opening day lecture with Carmela Spinelli, SCAD fashion historian, as she shares insights into Guo Pei’s work through the development and lens of Haute Couture. Spirited by her dreams, devotion, love and faith, Guo Pei continues to astound and push the boundaries of design through intricate embroidery techniques, stunning textiles, and gravity defying silhouettes.

It all started with a dream, the dream that transported Guo Pei into a global design phenomenon and couturier. We will explore Guo’s legacy, how she redefined traditional Chinese cultural heritage through her designs in fashion. Guo Pei has secured her place in the legacy of French Haute Couture, becoming the first Chinese national to be invited into the elite and historic Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Spirited by her dreams, devotion, love and faith, Guo Pei continues to astound and push the boundaries of design through intricate embroidery techniques, stunning textiles and gravity defying silhouettes. SCAD’s fashion historian Carmela Spinelli will discuss Guo Pei’s work through the development and lens of Haute Couture. With Guo Pei’s timeless, extraordinary designs on exhibit in the Bowers galleries, we will explore and capture the enchantment and essence of her journey.

3-4 p.m. – Post-lecture music in the Guo Pei:  Art of Couture exhibit with Leticia Hsu.
