A demonstration of basic Sumi-e brush stroke techniques will be shown before students practice the strokes necessary to complete a painting on rice paper. Sumi-e painting is an ancient art form in which the artist tries to convey the essence of a subject with minimal, simple brush strokes. Typical subjects in a Sumi-e painting include birds, fish, and plant life. Painting in this style is believed to create a sense of serenity in the artist and the viewer. Ages 7 to adult.
