The tumultuous events of the 1890s that brought the Hawaiian kingdom to an end were chronicled passionately in mele—chant and song lyrics. Kumu Hula are drawing from the archives of Hawaiian-language newspapers to bring these stories to contemporary audiences. Join us as we utilize the grace, art and power of hula to reconnect the eyewitnesses accounts of our ancestors to our love for Hawai’i pae ‘?ina—all of the Hawaiian islands!
