On Sunday, March 22, the Meritáge Vocal Arts Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Sheridan Ball, will present Life Upon the Wicked Stage, an eclectic compilation of favorites from the world of opera and musical theater. Starting at 4:00 PM, this diverse program promises a delightful afternoon of music from two of the world’s favorite genres of entertainment. This event will feature musical gems from such great operatic legends as Handel, Rossini, Verdi, Wagner, Bizet, Copland, and even a snippet of Gilbert & Sullivan. The musical theater portion of the program will include favorites from Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, West Side Story, Oliver and State Fair. Meritáge is also pleased to introduce their new pianist, Mr. Mark Salters, who is well known and highly respected throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. Mark is on the music faculty at California State University Fullerton, where he and Janet Smith direct the department’s Opera Theatre program. Dr. Ball and the Meritáge musicians are very excited to be working with such a fine artist and musician. In addition to the diverse choral offerings, this concert will also feature a variety of talented soloists from the Meritáge ensemble. As is their custom, the Meritáge musicians will provide a veritable feast of musical selections sure to intrigue, stimulate and entertain the audience’s diverse musical palate. The performance will take place in the beautifully refurbished Village Theater of Orange, located at 1140 N. Tustin Street. Tickets are $15 for general admission and may be ordered in advance at the website: Meritage-VocalArts.org or can be purchased at the door. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, so patrons are encouraged to arrive early for preferred seating.
