Lynda Thomas Distinguished Lecture Series | Guo Pei’s Language of Ornament with Dr. Ellen Huang

In this image-based lecture, art and design historian and Lynda Thomas Distinguished Lecturer Ellen Huang, Ph.D. will discuss the significance of Guo Pei’s designs for couture within the context of early modern global trade and design materials from late imperial and modern Chinese history (ca.1200-present). Images of paintings, records of cross-cultural encounter, and objects of translation will be discussed and shown to explore Guo Pei’s deployment of ornament as a distinct design mode.
