Manzanar: The Wartime Photographys of Ansel Adams

Manzanar:  The Wartime Photographs of Ansel Adams will be on exhibit at the Fullerton Museum Center January 21 through April 9, 2023.  The exhibition features 50 photographs by Ansel Adams of the Japanese American relocation camp in Manzanar, California, during World War II.

These photographs were the subject of his controversial book Born Free and Equal, published in 1944 while the war was still on, protesting the treatment of these American citizens.Also included in the exhibition are more than twenty-five various photographs, documents, and works of art that further record this era.

The mixed media art of Shizu Saldamando will accompany this exhibit to pay “homage to the Japanese Americans—including local residents and the artist’s own West Coast relatives—who were incarcerated on Oʻahu and on the US mainland during World War II.”
