On Exhibit: The Fate of Eve

The Fate of Eve, Golden West College’s latest exhibition, is organized by guest curator Heather Bowling. The group exhibition peels back the curtain on the unseen labor, silent struggles, and inner-worlds of women, women-adjacent, and femme-presenting individuals in society. The Fate of Eve opens as Women’s History Month kicks off, providing an opportunity to distill and process a specific moment in time for those living within (and crushed under) gender labels,” says Guest Curator Heather Bowling. Common threads that run throughout the show include the politics of bodily autonomy, the weight of societal expectations, the nuances of motherhood, and the struggles of mental health. Exhibiting artists include Julie Beloussow, Alexandra Carter, Simonette Jackson, Joetta Maue, Marie Njoku-Obi, Amanda Rowen, Natasha Rudenko, Rachel Silva, Niccole Ugay and Devon Walz. Bowling (she/they) has spent the past decade immersed in local Orange County arts communities, notably as the Director and Curator at Brea Gallery. They are passionate about making the arts accessible to all by creating inviting, engaging experiences for visitors of all backgrounds, while providing opportunities for marginalized artists.  The Art Gallery at Golden West College serves to engage the College campus and larger community by offering multiple exhibitions and events with a diverse range of artists throughout the academic year. The Art Gallery celebrates innovative contemporary art of varying media and themes with a focus on regional artists, especially those working in Orange County. The Fate of Eve will run until April 4, 2024.
