A dramatic, immersive introduction for triple choir and percussion by South Korean composer Hyo-Won Woo and a world premiere by Tarik O’Regan set the stage for Damien Geter’s timely and moving new cantata for soprano, cello, and choir, intertwining Bach and African American spirituals. The evening concludes with Rachmaninoff’s transcendent Vespers, inspired by Russian Orthodox chant and richly harmonized to display the voices of Pacific Chorale at their best.
