Pacific Currents: Works by Candidates of LCAD MFA Programs in Drawing and Painting

The exhibition is co-curated by Peter Zokosky, chair of LCAD’s MFA programs in Drawing and Painting and Andrea Harris-McGee, LCAD gallery director.

“I’m thrilled that our MFA candidates have another opportunity to share with the larger community their unique voices,” Zokosky said. “We are very excited to showcase this collection of work. Cultural Arts Manager, Sian Poeschl has made this an enjoyable experience and we are grateful for her welcoming us to Laguna Beach City Hall.”

The exhibition will include over 25 paintings and drawings by the following MFA candidates: Sansanee Boonyad, Barbara Brown, Trevor Christiansen, Angela Colon, Avery Endow, Jacqueline Nicolini, Kenny Harris, Olivia Healy-Mirkovich, Teresa Hill, Cody Jimenez, Catherine Kaleel, Dana Lewis, Charity Oetgen, Bradford Smith and James Thistlethwaite.

“When fine arts students enter a graduate program, the assumption is that they have a good set of skills, but the next challenge is: what are you going to do with those skills?” said Zokosky. “It is immensely gratifying to work with artists at this stage in their artistic developments. It’s essential to listen to them, and to offer advice on how to achieve their goals. You cannot make assumptions about what they should or should not be doing; that’s for them to decide.”
