Newport Beach Public Library will host a Sunday Musicale on Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m. featuring cellist Ashley Kim, accompanied by pianist Ralph Alberstrom and violinist Jooeun Cho. Sunday Musicales are held in the Friends Meeting Room at the Central Library, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach.
Ashley has performed at Lincoln Center and Landon Gallery in New York, Zipper Hall in Los Angeles, Biola University and Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, Korea. She is a winner of the prestigious Dong-a International competition and Korean Broadcasting System competition. She has performed with Seoul City Orchestra, Korean Broadcasting Symphony, Daejeon City Orchestra and I Artisti Orchestra, and was a principal cellist at Del Gesu Strings. Ashley received her Masters of Music from the Julliard School and also pursued studies at the University of Southern California.
Accompanied by Los Angeles based pianist Ralph Alberstrom, Ashley will perform cello pieces from a wide range of musical periods, including Bach Cello Suite No. 1 and Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia from the Baroque period; Elgar’s Cello Concerto 1st and 2nd movements from the Romantic period; and George Gershwin’s Three Preludes and Ennio Morricine’s Cinema Paradiso theme from the Contemporary period. The concert will include brief descriptions about each piece to better understand and enjoy some of the greatest cello music.
