The History of the FBI Presented by Dr. Don Schwartz

The History of the FBI  Wednesdays, April 3- 24, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Dr. Don Schwartz is an emeritus professor of history at California State University, Long Beach. He has been named a “Distinguished Lecturer” by the Organization of American History. He is a favorite at the JCC.

 April 3, Origins: This lecture will survey the birth of the FBI during the First Red Scare, the rise of J. Edgar Hoover, and how the FBI worked to combat Depression-era crime.

April 10, Fighting Subversives: The second lecture will address the role of the FBI in uncovering espionage during World War Two and the Cold War.

April 17,The 1960s and 1970s: An analysis of the FBI’s response to the civil rights movement and Vietnam War protesters, as well as its role in uncovering the Watergate scandal.

April 24,Since the 1980s: An examination of the successes and failures of the FBI from the administrations of Presidents Reagan to Trump.
