The Music Man in Concert

The Music Man became an instant hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards beating out “West Side Story” for “Best Musical.” The cast album went on to win the Grammy Award (the first ever) while the film score won an Academy Award. This romantic comedy is an energetic slice of Americana filled with romantic ballads, rousing marches and lively barbershop quartets. Selections such as “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Til There Was You,” “Marian the Librarian” and “Goodnight my Someone” have become perennial favorites.

Trivia note: The 1962 film’s final parade scene used the USC marching band and featured a young Richard Kaufman on trombone.
