Vanguard University: Spring Concert: Latin America

We would like to invite you to attend Vanguard\’s Music Department Spring Concert featuring! Dr. Joni Prado and Dr. Ken Foerch will be directing university ensembles as they perform a variety of Latin pieces and songs as well as a famous Creole Mass, Misa Criolla, by Argentinian composer Arial Ramirez.

Composed in 1964, The Misa Criolla, or the Creole Mass, was written after Catholic churches began reciting their public masses in the Vernacular in the early 60s. Ramirez took this opportunity to reflects the varied music of Argentina at that time when there was a great mixture of people groups. This popular mass features many Argentinean rhythms and many instruments native to the Andes.
