An exhilarating exercise in timing and tension, German director Sebastian Schipper’s VICTORIA finds its titular character on holiday in Berlin. However, her flirtation with a local guy turns potentially deadly as their night out with his friends reveals its secret: the four men owe someone a dangerous favor that requires repaying that evening.

VICTORIA is an ambitious tour de force. Following long-shot masterpieces like Iñarritu’s Birdman (composed only of three takes), VICTORIA packs an entire high-stakes heist film into a single two-and-a-half hour take. 

The Frida Cinema is incredibly excited to present a film endorsed by figures like director Darren Aronofsky, responsible for 2010’s beautiful, brutal, Black Swan. The film also carries a resounding stamp of approval from the German Film Awards, which awarded lead actress Laia Costa its prestigous Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role award. As of 2015, Laia is the first foreign actress to win a LOLA German Film Award.
