Overcoming COVID-19 delays and employing full pandemic precautions, an exhibition titled vision2020 which was rescheduled three different times featuring three different artists working in three different media, now begins November 7, 2020 with an opening reception (by appointment).
The three-artist exhibition features the internationally renowned and recognized award winning fashion and textile designer Dame Zandra Rhodes, DBE, along with historically legendary and internationally acclaimed junk-art assemblage artist and poet George Herms and Orange County’s own found-object sculpture artist Jeffrey Frisch. The exhibition, first scheduled for April, then rescheduled to September, then rescheduled again to open in November 2020 is at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, OCCCA.
Dame Zandra Rhodes is exhibiting her world famous fashion and textile design related paintings along with large-scale pen and ink drawings. Dame Zandra designed fashion for Princess Diana and other members of the British Royal Family in addition to a galaxy of celebrities including Freddy Mercury and Brian May of Queen. Her stellar 50 year design career encompasses a creatively wide range of fashion and textile design, home furnishing design in addition to making art.
George Herms, as an art instructor at California State University Fullerton in 1979 suggested to five of his graduated art students to start an art gallery to exhibit their contemporary work. That Gallery is OCCCA. Herms, internationally recognized, critically acclaimed and renowned for his rust infused junk-art assemblage work will be exhibiting tw0-dimentional art and selected freestanding sculptural work.
Jeffrey Frisch, in his 23 rd year as curator of the arts program at John Wayne Airport – Orange County, also Executive Director of OCCCA, will be presenting an armada of 20 airborne ‘dreamVessels’, each created from created from up-cycled, discarded found objects with sail fabric cut from shirts he has worn. ‘dreamVessels’ appear to be ancient yet futuristic sailing vessels from a parallel multiverse.
